Departed Yacht Haven Annapolis. Gentle breezes in the Severn. Made course for the area between Horn Point and the Eastport Yacht Club...BEWARE...the bottom looms up due to what appears to be an underwater cliff. Depth suddenly changes from 20+' to 5+'. Depth alarm sounded. Tacked away to form course for David Taylor. Tacked to go up the Severn River. As we approached the Naval Academy, the wind faded, weakening further and further, till speed over the ground fell to less than two knots. Tacked around to go downstream. Regained the wind. Watched the midshipmen practice in both dingies and NA 44's as we sailed out past R "6", which was being used as a turning mark for the NA 44's. Passed quite close to R "4" so that Paul could get a good look at the osprey and the fish in its talons. Parallax, due to where Paul was sitting, deceived him into thinking that we were going to hit R "4". Sailed on out into the bay, opening Whitehall Bay till 17:15. Turned back reaching up the Severn River till we turned into the wind to drop sail. Returned to Yacht Haven Annapolis. Nailed the entrance to the slip. The two spring lines worked very well to locate the vessel. Excellent addition to our docking configuration.
