Stripped finish from the aft lazarette hatch using a Wagner heat gun on high an a putty knife. One must wear a leather glove on the hand holding the scraper for this work. As Tom Baker and Mike Lehman explained, the finish will bubble up and scrape off easily after what seems like 10+ seconds of heating. Thinner areas of finish will no bubble but will scrape clean. Sanding does not remove the finish...this stuff is too tough, rather the finish is smoothed by 220 grit and 150 grit open sandpaper.
Never do this in the house unless the exhaust ventilation is very good. Produces far too much smell. Rather easy to burn the finish in areas where the finish is thinly applied. Thin finish does not bubble up, seems that the best way to tell thinly applied finish is ready to scrape off is by trying to do so.
