- Bought tap and die set
- Outlined based of Groco
flanged ball valve
on G10 backing plate
- Drilled 1/4" holes for three bolts to secure the flanged ball valve
to the backing plate
- Tapped the three holes for 5/16" 18 thread per inch bronze bolts
- Taped up the thru hull and tested is against the G10 backing plate
- Used a stone grinding attachment to gently enlarge the hole in the backing plate
- Inserted the thru hull into the boat
- Mixed two packets of West System epoxy with filler to about a mayonaisse consistency...should have added more filler to make it thicker
- Battered the underside of the G10 backing plate
- Placed the backing plate over the thru hull...epoxy oozed out the three tapped bolt holes...should have placed small circles of tape on the backside to protect the holes
- Noticed that the backing plate was slipping down the hull a bit, slid it back into place and placed support to prevent slipping
- After 15+ minutes the epoxy still had not kicked...left for the day
