Arrived at the boat after stopping at APS (Annapolis Performance Sailing) to pick up the second Selden 60 mm plain bearing block . Installed it on the port side. First was installed on starboard on 9th October 2016.
Added 4.5 gallons of diesel fuel.
Headed out quickly. Encountered winds of 11 to 13 knots off of Eastport Yacht Club. Discussed with Leah the idea of sailing under jib alone. She vetoed that..."We've done this before". Raised the main, rolled out the jib and off we went. Seems that the main added about a knot of speed, perhaps even a knot and a half at times. Important to keep the boat on her feet. Heeling beyond 20 degrees slows the boat by half a knot, perhaps more. We were hitting six knots upwind when the sails were trimmed well and the boat reasonably heeled.
Heard about a US Navy submarine in the area and folks are required to keep a distance of at least 500 yards. At the end of our final tack out into the bay, spotted the submarine on the surface anchored at naval anchorage location 'C'. About then tacked around to head back to port. After the turn, while still exposed to the wind without interference from Tolly Point, hit 6.3 knots a number of times. At the end of the sail, while furling the jib, spotted the same (?) tug and barge on its way downstream that we had seen on its way upstream last night.
