- Used 3M 4200 to seal the deck openings for the upper and lower shrouds. Seems that a good procedure is to
- Clean the deck and chainplate with denatured alcohol.
- Soak an area of a raw or paper towel with denatured alcohol.
- Apply the end of a 3oz tube of 4200 directly against the deck and the chainplate at a diagonal to both surfaces.
- Squeeze hard, 4200 is thick. 4200 will be forced into the gap between the deck and the chainplate and will fill the triangular area defined by the vertical surface of the chainplate, the horizontal surface of the deck, and the opening in the 3oz tube of 4200.
- Move the tube slowly around the circumference of the chainplate opening.
- Dip an epoxy mixing stick into denatured alcohol and use the edge of the mixing stick to "cut" the stream of 4200 off at the opening in the tube.
- Use the area of raw soaked in denatured alcohol to cleanup any mess.
- Affixed the registration stickers and boat numbers (MD 4040 BN) to each side of the bow.
- Replaced the 7/8" drive shaft zinc located between the cutlass bearing housing and the propeller.
- Examined the locations for the companionway handles again. Placing the inboard edge of the handle 1-3/4" from the inboard edge of the companionway trim seems the "right" location. The starboard handle will be quite close to the power and data cables for wind and depth instruments. Have some concern that the cables my be damaged by someone grabbing at the handles. Need to determin how to handle this. On the port side, the clip for the VHF microphone will need to be relocated.
