Ben Alvardo, Monica's seven year old son, wanted to come out, so come out he did. Had Ben drive some while I handled raising and triming sails. He did well. Its easier to teach a child than an adult. Unfortunately, somewhat after passing Horn Point, we had to return to the harbor to drop him off at the Chart House dock. He never relaxed, remained worried that the boat might flip despite the boat being heeled at 10 degrees, and no more.

Sailed out past R "4" in a single tack. Ended up crowding a Rainbow from Annapolis Sailing School in order to make the mark. Called out to the skipper to apologize for sailing closer than several boat lengths downwind of him and to explain the situation. Overhauled the Rainbow easily enough. Looking at PRHF ratings for Rainbows and Alberg 30s, found the Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound with PRHF of 258 for a single Rainbow and 222 for a single Alberg 30. On the return, from the Bay in to the river, saw apparent winds of 16 knots at the masthead while the boat was showing 6.5 to 7.4 on the GPS. Sleigh riding downwind!
