- Bought a DeWalt Fractional Tap and Die Set at HomeDepot. The other tap and die set created threads that were loose, by comparison, as did TC's.
- Removed the lower Schaefer 5 Series Cheek Block on the port side of the mast. Was able to remove one Philips head screw using a screwdriver, one using two nuts cinched against each other after the head twisted off the screw. The other two screws, the lower pair, had to be cut off using the Ridgid oscillating tool. Tried two turn out the remaining 1/2" stub, but no luck, both twisted off leaving at the mast leaving the threaded hole closed.
- Removed a Schaefer 7 Series Single Block from the base of the mast starboard side. The block was connected to a ring secured to the base of the starboard side of the mast. Had been used to route the main halyard from the mast to the deck organizer.
- Removed a ring secured to the base of the starboard side of the mast. Was able to remove all four straight screws without incident, difficult but successful.
- Removed a twisted shackle from the ring at the aft side of the mast base plate. The lower swivel fiddle block of the boomvang had been secured to the ring at the aft side of the mast base plate with the twisted shackle. The The lower swivel fiddle block of the boomvang now diretly secured to the ring at the aft side of the mast base plate.
- Installed the 7 Series Single Block on the ring at the aft side of the mast base plate to be used for the reefing line.
- Drilled and tapped three holes for a Schaefer 5 Series Double Cheek Block and pad. Both purchased at APS (Annapolis Performance Sailing)
at a 20% discount. The fourth hole, forward lower, was already in place as the forward upper hole of the four that secured the ring removed earlier.
- Installed the 5 Series Double Cheek Block at the base of the starboard side of the mast using #10-24 hex head machine screws in place of Philips head machine screws.
- Rove the main halyard through the inner half of the double cheek block. At the current time, the topping lift is in the outer half.
- In the future:
- Boomvang, main halyard, and spinnaker halyard to starboard line stoppers. Topping lift, foreguy, and reefing line to port stoppers.
- Install single Schaefer 5 Series Cheek Block removed from mast on to the boom to hold the reefing line.
- Reeve the reefing line.
- Extend the outhaul to the front end of the boom and terminate at a clam cleat.
