Note: started recording the track a bit before shutting down the engine, and stopped after docking.
Tacking practice. After passing Y "A", turned upwind. Worked into the wind from the Severn River toward the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, with the intention of tacking every five minutes, and trying to obtain 90 degree tacking angles. Focused on keeping the boat moderately heeled, about fifteen degrees, moving well, and trying to null out the weather helm by dropping the traveler, rather than the jib telltales. The windward telltales of the jib were often fluttering.
As always, failed to do so. There were some good tacks, particularly close to the western shore of the bay. Tacks worsened markedly as I approached the Bay itself upon clearing Hackett Point. While the websites indicate that the tide was on the flood, the boat's movement within 100 yards of R "90" indicate a strong ebb tide. That ebb tide would make the course over the ground while tacking much worse than would be the case in slack water.
