Over the weekend, the hourmeter ran from 96.2 to 99.6, or 3.4 hours, due to water instrusion into the ignition switch combined with my failure to switch off the main battery switch. Due to the water, the boat's alarm was sounding. Dan was kind enough to come aboard on Shabbat and turn off the main battery switch.

Wind at last. Kicking up to 18 or 19 knots in the gusts as I motored out to the river to raise sail. White caps distributed across the width of the river. No spray being lifted by the wind. Decided upon a reef in the main from the start. With a reefed main and no jib, Constance was making about 3 to 3.5 knots on a close reach or beat. Rolled out the jib to the 135% mark, the second smallest mark. When the waves were quiet, the main and jib moved the boat at 6+ knots. Unforunately, the waves were well developed, throwing spray over the bow, and from time to time into the windward side of the cockpit from the bow. The wave action slowed the boat to somewhere between 4.5 knots and 5.x knots. Both the Woodwinds were out, flying main and jib only. With main and jib, neither one was making hull speed, rather the bow wave crested about 2/3rds to 3/4ths of the way abaft the bow.

Sailed out to the Y "A" in three tacks. Headed back downwind at speed, often seeing 6 and 7 knots.

Sailed back out to the Y "A" in three tacks. Headed back downwind at speed, often seeing 6 and 7 knots, with 9.1, while surfing down a wave, the highest value on the GPS that I saw. Still the wind was in the high teens at that time.

Good chance to learn some about handling the boat in stronger breezes.
