Seeing 14 to 17 knots at the masthead when motoring at 90d to the wind past the Naval Academy football field, decided to sail under jib only today. Jib only had the boat heeled well over much of the time. Needed either a smaller jib with a reefed main, I guess, or a less stretched jib.

With the wind hitting 17 knots at the masthead while tacking out of the river under jib only, the leeward upper shrouds were completely slack. Need to check the tensions on the uppers.

Sailed out to the channel, then tacked, when I noted a tug towing the hull of a vessel, rather than create a situation that might cause the tug operator some concern. Passed upon the stern of a freighter the Oceanus out of Monrovia, one of ten vessels moored in the Bay outside Annapolis, then turned downwind for home.

Very few sailboats out. Perhaps half a dozen total. A couple powerboats. Nearly had the Bay to myself. Saw Harry winterizing Second-2-Nun. We spoke a bit.
