Distance race around government marks. Set finishing time of 16:00. Race Committee decided to start the fastest boats first and the slower boats later. Alberg 30s to have the last start, immediately after the Cal 25's. Race committee set a course of "GR" by Thomas Point, R "88", and G "C1" Hacketts for all classes but the Cal 25's and Alberg 30's. Our course was "GR" by Thomas Point and return to the start/finish line which was located somewhat north of R "2".
We started about half way down the line with speed. Mike and Harry both started closer to the committee boat. At the gun, hardened up to close hauled on starboard tack. Soon started to open distance between ourselves and the others. Needed to go well out to obtain a lane between freighters waiting to go to Baltimore. After tacking, we past between Alethini at 38.93722° / -76.40659° and Eisho at 38.9358° / -76.41534°. Mike headed out somewhat farther. This worked out well for him as he crossed our bow with a couple boats lengths to spare in the vicinity of 38° 54' / 076° 26'.
Despite being behind at that crossing, we rounded the mark a couple lengths ahead of Mike. A bit of dueling occurred to see who would end up to weather while sailing downwind toward the finish line a bit broader than a beam reach on starboard tack. Once we asserted our abiltiy to keep Mike from coming above us, we headed off a bit more and soon opened up a considerable lead downwind.
Gybed some 0.8nm from the finish and won the race. Quiet, competent performace with TC driving, John trimming jib, and I trimming spinnaker.
Started recording the track a bit late, seems to be about 0.8nm after the start. Record distance: 7.92nm in 2:16 for an average speed of 3.48kts. GPX formatted Track
