Rained all day on Monday and most of Tuesday. Rain Wednesday night as well. Strong ebb current running the channel at LLB92, about 0.8 knots. The current is reflected in the track. Upon changing course at 14:29 from 075 degrees to 235 degrees, the boat's speed as recorded by iNavX climbed from about 4.5 knots to 7+ knots. The sea state while making 7+ knots was quiet, with chop of one foot or less. A strange experience to be moving so fast over the ground with only 9 to 11 knots of wind apparent at the starboard beam. Between the current and the fluky winds around the Chesapeake Bay Bridge supports, it was quite difficult to pass the bridge. At times the wind dropped to nearly calm, at other times the wind shifted quite significantly around the supports. The effects can be seen in the tacking angles and the distance lost during tacking below the bridge.
First day that it was cool and windy enough to need a jacket while sailing upwind towards the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Several times during the sail upwind towards the Chesapeake Bay Bridge got the boat well enough balanced that I could leave the helm for about half a minute.
