- Filled jerry gan with four gallons of diesel.
- Set bilge pump to automatic.
- Problems starting engine. Batteries not up to the task, not spinning the engine fast enough, even after using start and decompression levers to heat up the cylinder walls for 10 seconds. starting battery (#1) particularly weak. House battery (#2) stronger, but not strong enough to spin engine quickly. Started after connecting to shore power and bleeding some air from the system at the bleed screw atop the on-engine filter. Need to replace starting battery, if not both.
- New propeller is the wrong size:
- 3,000rpm yields 4.5kts per GPSmap 192c.
- 2,500rpm yields 4.0kts per GPSmap 192c.
- 2,000rpm yields 3.5kts per GPSmap 192c.
- Naval Academy Bridge to "1S" upstream took 4:43. Downstream took 3:51.
- Much less prop-walk with the two blade prop.
- Boat accelerates more slowly, good bit more slowly.
- Reverse works but not powerful, needs to be used with the understanding that it will take time to slow the boat.
- Engine heated up 150 to 160 F and stayed there (150 @ 2,500 RPM, 160 @ 3,000 RPM), river ~42 F, raw water elbow ~55 F, heat exchanger ~125F.
- Found a spray of diesel coming from the on-engine filter inlet compression fitting. Tighened with a 17mm wrench. Leak stopped. Worth monitoring and checking other compression fittings.
- Set up the four docklines, one to each quarter, and the two spring lines.
- Removed silicon from the deck in the area under the fuel fill pad and the spinnaker turning block pads.
- Scrubbed deck and cockpit with warm water, hot from the tap, not so hot outside.
