Engine misbehaving. Cannot run it at more than about 2,200rpm no matter how far I move the throttle. Checked air filter, no problem. Verified by running the engine without the air filter for a few minutes. Guessing it must be a flow constriction in the fuel system. Filters? Again?
Gusting up to 19 knots apparent in the vicinity of Tolly Point.
While approaching the shipping anchored west of the channel, went to roll up the genoa before putting a reef in the main. No joy ... could not get the genoa to roll more than a few turns. Dropped the main. Turned downwind. Removed the metal cover from around the drum so that I could reach the line fully. Ended up unreeving the reefing line, taking several wraps off the drum to free the line, re-reeving the reefing line, furling the sail using the remainder of the reefing line, adding several wraps of the genoa and its sheets around the furler, adjusting and sorting lines. After all this it works fine. Currently, the drum is removed. Guessing that its primary function is to prevent the furling line from falling off the drum and wrapping around the rigging screw and toggles. Tempted to leave it off.
At the end of the day's sail, had to hide behind the Naval Academy to find a lee in which to drop and furl the mainsail.
