Course: B3 shortened to finish at R"8".
Time limit: 2040.
Sails: Interrupt mainsail, Interrupt genoa and Interrupt spinnaker.
Poor start. Failed to account for the amount of time that it takes to tack and so we started some 20 seconds late behind LinGin and Laughing Gull. Remained behind the entire race.
On the reach from mark "A" to mark "B", started out well with winds at force 3. Laughing Gull set a spinnaker. Rather surprised that they could trim the sail at this angle. After a while, they gave it up and re-hoisted the genoa. Wind fell to force 1 in the couple hundred yards to mark "B" ... very slow.
After rounding mark "B", headed out to the Bay to seek more wind. The course was nearly directly into sets of wakes/waves that slowed the boat greatly and induced too much hobby-horsing. Laughing Gull went on port tack towards the south short of the Severn. Saw a number of dolphins while headed out into the Bay. At least two groups that appeared to be tightly packed with perhaps ten in each group. Once we tacked onto to the layline for mark "E", putting the wakes/waves on our port side, our speed picked up markedly. Speed over ground, based upon the GPS, increased signficantly.
Still behind rounding mark "E". Good spinnaker set to a run down to R"8". The Interrupt spinnaker is better for reaching than for running, the shoulders are not broad. The maximum girth occurs in the middle of the leeches of the sail. Did not meaningfully close the distance to Laughing Gull, much less LinGin who was far ahead.
Finishing order: LinGin, Laughing Gull, Constance. Second-2-Nun. Skybird did not start.
