Stopped at WestMarine and Fawcett Boat to get shackles used below. Stopped at Giant to get food and drink for the crew to eat on the way to Oxford and back. Didn't get to the boat till about 11:30.
Fixed steaming light. Bulb had burned out.
Replaced lashings securing the head and tack of the 170LP with shackles are recommended by TC. The shackles are Ronstan RF617 1/4" D shackle . The inside depth of the shackle is 7/8". Much less than the Selden snap shackles provided with the furler. As a result, its possible to tension the 170LP on the foil. There is about 3" of foil between the top swivel and the top guard.
Relocated standing part of genoa halyard to inside the keeper. The keeper is there to force a sufficiently large angle between the halyard and the foil. Not needed now as the 170LP genoa places the top swivel is so high up the foil that halyard wraps are not possible. Need to add pendants to the 150LP and 135LP to ensure that the same geometry applies.
Reoriented windex so that the two legs are centered on the boat's fore and aft axis, hopefully.
Replaced mixed Harken and Seaway mainsheet blocks with Garhauer 40-08 UAB fiddle block with cam cleat, snap shackle, and becket for the bottom and Garhauer 40-02 UAB fiddle block with shackle and becket puchased at "Anchor and Oars" in Graysonville MD for $105.00. Need to look at the possibility of switching the snap shackle from the bottom (traveler) block with the shackle of the top (boom) block. That way if someone operates the snapshackle the spring on the traveler does not go flying into the water. Will need to replace the Ronstan cam cleat. Appears to be a Ronstan C-Cleat , perhaps RF5010 C-Cleat . Need to verify this.
Moved the first reef turning block at the base of the mast from an eye to a pendant connected to the same eye. As a result, the reefing line no longer bears on the gelcoat trying to cut a channel in which to move. The pendant is a 8" to 9" loop of Dyneema previously used as a tack pendant for the 150LP genoa. Need a pendant on the 150LP to raise the head of the sail high enough to obtain a good angle between the halyard and the foil to prevent halyard wraps. Made two 6" Dyneema pendants to be attached to the head and the tack of the 150LP genoa. Need to make pendants for the 135LP.
Need to take down the furler, replace the headstay with a wire long enough to remove the 6" extension plates at the top and the extra toggle at the stem, replace the top section of foil with the 2400mm section purchased from MauriPro Sailing and Marine , remove the 1000mm section below the gate, cut the previous top section to fit between the 2400mm sections above the gate and the lower swivel/drum.
Purchased 100 feet of Marlow orange 5/16" (8mm) Marstron propylene at APS for 70% off. To be used to tow a dinghy.
