Course: B1.
Time limit: 2020.
Interrupt genoa, Interrupt mainsail.
Started at the pin end. Well timed. All Cal 25's and all other Alberg 30's sailed down the line and started upwind of us, but not ahead. The pin end was slightly favored. With clear air and excellent trimming by TC we reached the first mark just ahead of everyone else. No tacks on the way to the first mark. Shut the door at the mark on White Cap, then sailed immediately to the next mark. Mistake, after shutting the door and rounding the mark, I should have headed up a bit to force everyone to windward and create more space for Constance
Turned downwind. Needed to clear the pole, topping lift and downhaul needed to be re-run. LinGin without spinnaker and a crew member climbing mast, must have sky'ed a halyard. Skybird and all Cal 25's a bit to windward. Moved well on the fleet, slowly pulling ahead till the last quarter mile or so to the mark, when the wind weakened for a while, falling to 2 to 3 knots on the instrument. At that point, everyone started moving on us. Must have had a differerent wind. No one aboard could see what, if anything, we were doing wrong.
Rounded the second mark in the lead but behind a Cal 25 or two. Very poor driving on the first board of the upwind leg. Both low and slow with poor trim. Skybird past us and got a significant lead. TC got it all sorted and put the boat into point mode for the second board. On the second cut their lead meaningfully, but not enough. Rounded the A"Y" in second place, about five boat lengths behind.
Easy reach to the finish without an opportunity to change standings.
Finishing order: Skybird, Constance, LinGin, Kawahai.
