Sails: #2 genoa and full main.
Course: Start at Hartford Pt, G"13", G"5", G"13", G"5", G"1SC", finish at AYC
Pat driving, Skip in pit, Alisa on main, TC and I on jib.
Fahrvergnügen had an excellent start at the pin. Arrived on time while all other boats were either early or late.
Fast sail out to G"13". Got rolled slowly by Makani who was clear ahead before the mark. Rounded the mark with an inside overlap on another Cal 25. Gybed and headed downwind to G"5".
Arrived at G"5" with Makani and an inside overlap on another Cal 25 again. After the rounding, Fahrvergnügen was to weather and overlapped with Makani. Tacked away to clear our air. Sailed well, quickly to G"13", arriving in first place.
Took over trimming main from Alisa before the downwind leg.
Downwind to G"5" in the lead the whole way. Clean, start wide and end tight rounding of G"13". Headed towards Eastport, tacked over before Horn Point. On port tack while seeing GPS speeds of 4.7 to 5.3 knots, crossed White Cap, the series leader, by about ten boat lengths. White Cap, with #2 genoa and single reef in the main, had sailed in towards the Naval Station. Sometime after crossing White Cap, tacked over to starboard and began heading for G"1SC". Headed as was White Cap. Near Eastport Yacht Club, White Cap tacked over to port having closed the gap considerably to about 4 boat lengths. Tacked over to port after crossing White Cap's line.
Both boats tacked back to starboard. White Cap ended up ahead and inside of Fahrvergnügen at G"1SC". White Cap was about half to a full boat to leeward and clear ahead to a boat length ahead...giving Fahrvergnügen dirty air. Relative positions remained unchanged to the finish. White Cap and Fahrvergnügen finished well ahead of the rest of the fleet.
Pat's assessment is that we overstood G"1SC" allowing White Cap to tack inside us and scoot ahead.
TC's assessment incorporates Pat's and adds that we were overpowered and should have had the same sail plan as White Cap, #2 genoa and a reef in the main.
