Sailed back and forth from near the Naval Academy seawall to near or past Horn Point . There were a couple private marks along the way. Repeated tried to estimate the time that it would take to reach the mark...an element of starting practice. Often wrong. Usually underestimated the time that would be required by 10 to 30 seconds over a period of forty seconds to two and a half minutes. More practice needed, as well as practice arriving at a mark at a specified time on the clock.

While a bit up the Severn river upstream from R"14", saw a square topsail at the mouth of the river coming in towards Annapolis. Sailed out to meet Lynx and sailed in company at a distance of 30 yards behind. Exceeded their speed; passed them about 20 yards to windward. Caught a red hulled, single-handed Harbor 20 that was past me headed upstream as well.
