Upon returning to dock, after racing on 2022-05-25, found that the genoa halyard was jammed. Quite difficult to lower the sail. Guessing that we overtightened the luff of the genoa and damaged the halyard block. Even after removing the sail, the halyard is quite hard to move. The genoa halyard was forced by winching off the sheave and into the space between the sheave and the cheek of the block deforming the 1mm thick stainless stell strop. Took a bit of effort and multiple tugs to get the halyard free of its pinched location between the sheave and the cheek...was concerned that I would have to cut it free. Fortunately not, as the cut would have been about 34' from on end of the halyard and would have necessitated replacing the halyard.
Replaced the damaged Ronstan RF41100 40mm single swivel block with another RF41100 40mm single swivel block on 2022-05-29. The maximum working load of the block is 880 lb.
The strap eye in front of the mail halyard that prevents the genoa block from landing on the main halyard and pinching the main halyard against its sheave forces the genoa halyard block to sit at an angle to the direction of pull. The sheave diameter of the Harken 2.25 Classic Swivel is 2-1/4". The top of the sheave is even with the eye strap leaving 2" from the top of the shackle to the top of the sheave (see first photo below).
The Ronstan RF41100 40mm single swivel block is 3-1/2" long overall, 3/4" shorter than the Harken 2.25 Classic Swivel . Sheave diameter is 1-9/16" vs the Harken 2.25 Classic Swivel diameter of 2-1/4", length overall of 4-1/4", and maximum working load of 500 lb. The Harken Carbo Air 40mm Swivel has a sheave diameter of 1-9/16", 3-3/8" length overall with a maximum working load of 485 lb. Sheave diameter for the Harken Carbo Air 57mm Swivel is 2-1/4" with an overall length of 4-5/16" and 792 lb maximum working load.
Seems that the Ronstan block is not quite short enough to to clear the main halyard should I remove the eye strap...an item to verify next time I am up the mast. Marks from the eye strap cutting into the plastic and the metal of the damaged Ronstan RF41100 40mm single swivel block are visible in the photos below. Would be good if the tang holding the block was shorter.
