Step by step
- Measure the existing shroud or stay from pin/hole center to pin/hole center.
- Remove the existing shroud of stay from the turnbuckle.
- Screw the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal into the turnbuckle.
- Stretch out the replacement wire alongside the existing.
- Place the turnbuckle and replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal with the pin/hole center at the measured distance.
- Mark the replacement wire at the wrench flats of the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal.
- Cut the replacment wire at the mark using a Dremel cutoff wheel or new fine tooth hacksaw blade.
- Unscrew the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal from the turnbuckle.
- Disassemble the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal.
- Slide the top section of the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal onto the wire.
- Using a towel pushed straight down on to the end of the cut wire, twist the ends to "flower" the wire.
- Slide the wedge of the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal onto the core of the wire.
- Re-twist the wires to sit smoothly along the wedge making sure that no wire strands slip into the slot of the wedge.
- Coat the threads of the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal with Lok-tite.
- Screw the terminal stud into the top section of the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal to form the ends of the wire.
- Unscrew the assembly to verify both the forming of the wire and that no wire strand has slipped into the slot of the wedge.
- Squeeze a quantity of 3M 4200 into the terminal stud of the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal.
- Screw the two sections of the replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal together.
- Verify that 3M 4200 has been forced out of the upper section of replacement Sta-Lok mechanical terminal all around the wire.
- Remove the excess 4200.
