The Start
- The most important part of the race.
- Position at the gun is the most important thing.
- Immediately turns into an all-out sprint.
- Rule 14 "Avoiding Contact" applies before the start.

Tactical Considerations
Overtaking
- Overtake from leeward when possible.
- Immediately after overtaking close aboard, bear away to give room to keep clear and to accelerate.
- Should the windward boat, bear away and create an overlap, Rule 15 and 17 will apply, take 'em up and force 'em out, but no farther than head to wind.
