- Lightly sanded cockpit seats and companionway trim with 400 grit. The 220 grit recommended in the Application Instructions seemed to remove too much material.
- Removed sanding dust from cockpit seats and companionway trim using a hot wet rag -- NOT a tack rag.
- Applied fourth coat of Awlwood
clear gloss to cockpit seats and companionway trim. This coat required less material. Expect that this trend will continue as the surface becomes smoother.
- Applied second coat of Cetol Marine Natural Light
to outboard surface of the coamings and icebox lid.
-
- Sanded cockpit non-skid areas.
- Vacuumed.
- Washed down with hot water.
- Masked off cockpit non-skid areas. Took a while. Lots of corners to form.
- KiwiGrip
applied to cockpit non-skid areas. KiwiGrip is the consistency of yogurt. Easily scooped out with measuring cups. 1/3 and 1/4 cup most useful for the small areas in the cockpit. Amount required for each area can be calculated from the size of the area and the recommended one liter per 20 square feet coverage. Spread the material out with a 809 notched spreader
to the edges of the cockpit non-skid areas. Used the 6mm notches everywhere. In retrospect, might have been better to use shallower notches on the seating areas. Does not spread well to new areas with the roller. When rolled too much, pinhead sized uncovered areas will appear as the roller lifts the material from the surface. Seems to work well to roll it on hard, then more lightly to remove any lines, then very lightly to pop any bubbles.
-
- Sanded and 1st coat of Brightside
rim of companionway.
-
- Next steps:
- Apply fifth finish coat to cockpit locker seat lids and companionway trim.
- Apply thrid coat to outboard surface coamings and icebox lid.
- Apply Brightside to companionway rim and ruddershaft penetration.
- Reinstall engine controls.
- Reinstall instruments.
