- Picked up replacement mast base from Eastport Spar & Rigging
.
- Test fit mast base against the mast plate on the boat. The slot have been opened more than necessary. See photos.
- Drilled 1/4" drain hole and in the bottom aft side of the mast.
- Cut the slot for the drain hole using an Dremel cut off wheel. The wheels are brittle, spinning at a very high rate, and break apart throwing fragments. Eye protection mandatory.
-
- Re-fit the replacement main halyard sheave from Zephyrwerks
. The sheave binds against the plates and does not turn when the plates are installed.
- Found that the compression tube hole is not square the to mast. Inserting the compression tube from the port side results in the tube hitting the inside of the mast just aft the hole. The misalignment is 1/16", the thickness of the compression tube.
- Removing the aluminum plates allows the sheave to turn, but does not prevent (guarantees?) that the halyard will jump off the sheave. See photos.
- Removed the strap eye from the front side of the mast at the main halyard slot.
- Flattened the forward edge of the port aluminum plate so I could see where the plate is forced against the halyard slot on the front side of the mast.
- Used a 10" bastard file to remove material from the port side of the front slot in the mast.
- Better. Sheave will rotate with significant drag.
