- Transferred mainsail and 135LP genoa to the boat.
- Installed the bronze bolt that connects the tiller head to the rudder post. The bolt dropped out twice over the course of the winter.
- Motored around Horn Point to 717 Chester Ave where the mast has been since 2020-03-05.
- Installed a Sta-Lok swageless eye terminal (inch)
raw end of the backstay ordered from SailingServices
.
- Installed the mast base.
- Opened up the Selden rigging screw to full exension.
- Moved the parts of the A-Frame from the cabin to the dock.
- Prepared for the crew's arrival.
-
- Assembled the A-Frame.
- Carried the mast onto the boat.
- Attached the standing rigging.
- Rove the halyards: spinnaker, genoa, flag. Rove the main and spinnaker topping lifts.
- Carried the roller furler to the boat and attached the top to the mast.
- Raised the mast: Mike directing, Jonathan hauling to raise the mast, TC on the winch helping Jonathan, Christian guiding the roller furler, myself on the mast base.
- Bolted the mast base to the deck plate. Mast base slide as far forward as possible on the deck plate.
- Attached the upper shrouds, roller furler, and lashed the backstay to its chainplate. -- FITS! Seems that the various parts were cut close enough to the exact dimensions. Very pleased.
- All the above completed no later than 12:30.
- Attached the lower shrouds to their chainplates.
- Took up 12 out of 39 half turns on the roller furler to tension the headstay.
- Used the remainder of the CS Johnson Stay Extender
, which I had rounded off on Friday afternoon, to attach the backstay to its chainplate with clevis pins in place of the lashing installed earlier as an expedient. Pure serendipity that this should fit.
- Motored back to Yacht Haven Annapolis.
- Spent some time clear up items below.
- Used the marks (white electrical tape) that Jonathan Adams had put on all shrouds, equal distance from the top pin/eye for each pair, on 2020-04-26 to center the mast on the boat.
- Initial assessment:
- 4" to 5" of rake. Subtracted 2" from the length of the headstay in an effort to lessen the previous rake of 10" to 12".
- Foil of the roller furler appears to be just about as long as possible -- no excess toggles, minimum stay extender to allow for toggle at masthead, reasonably small amount of swage fitting showing at the masthead.
- 34' 4" of useable hoist in the roller furler.
- Seem to have misplaced the main topping lift. Installed the wrong line.
