Used #8-32 thread 1/2" pan head machine screws to install strap eye immediately above where the main halyard enters the forward side of the mast. Now the genoa halyard block rests against the strap eye in place of pinching the main halyard against the sheave.

Found on the deck an horn of a small cleat from the starboard side of the mast. May be original. Appears that the galvanic corrosion between the aluminum of the cleat and the stainless steel screw expanded the diameter of the mounting hole till the aluminum fractured. (See photos.)

Photo of previous strap eye installed taken on 2019-04-17. When renewing the standing rigging this winter, removed the strap eye, as I did not know what its purpose was.
