Sails: Pandora mainsail and 169LP genoa and EP Sails spinnaker.
Event: 2023 Annapolis Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta
Course: 0.8nm, two laps, gate the the leeward end, windward and offset mark.
Day's results: Argo (5), Laughing Gull (6), Constance (11 SCP/9), Windswept (12), Sabrina (13), and Rinn Duin (18).
Hard current flowing down the Bay making the rounding at the windward mark and fetching the offset a challenge. In the first two races, several boats had to tack twice at the windward mark to make it. One J/22 ended up double-tacking between the windward mark and the offset. Ended up going hard left, banging the corner, every time. May have sailed too deep into the corner, more than once causing to sail a longer course than necessary and so affecting our results. Numerous difficulties that the crew met with resilience, overcoming adversity. By the last race, folks were worn and having trouble staying on their game.
Three races. Finished third, first, and fifth out of six boats, each time. First race score adjusted to fifth due to scoring penalty--port/starboard forced Sabrina to alter course
Started on starboard about 30 seconds late. In the first race, got a hard override in the furler drum. Ended up raising and lowering the genoa each time on the downwind legs. Slowed our performance. Had to removed the shield from the Selden furler to clear the override. In the process two parts were lost overboard. The start of the second race was delayed by allowing another class to start ahead, rather than after, us so that we had more time to clear up the mess. Argo (1), Laughing Gull (2), Windswept (4), Constance (5 SCP/3), Sabrina (5), and Rinn Duin (6).
No foul-ups in the second race. Started on port. Sailed on port above the line of the gate to clear the J/22's rounding there. Sailed the first upwind leg to windward of the fleet. Sailed well and won by a confortable margin. Argo (4), Laughing Gull (4), Constance (6 SCP/4), Sabrina (9), Windswept (9), and Rinn Duin (12).
Started on starboard about 15 seconds late. In the third race, had genoa sheets and spinnaker sheets misled on each other. At the last windward rounding we rounded ahead of Sabrina but due to fouled sheets Sabrina passed us. During the downwind leg we could not close the gap and Sabrina finished ahead of us but overlapped.
