Course: B3R
Sails: EP Sails 169LP genoa and Interrupt main. EP Sails spinnaker. Backstay at 3.

Better timing on the start. Allowed 60 seconds to turn around and get back up to speed. Arrived a bit early at the committee boat end of the line, perhaps 15 to 30 seconds, had to luff sails to slow the boat and prevent us from being over early. Would have been better to a bit further from the line. Argo was directly behind us, less than a length away. Where Egos Dare was to leeward and heading up towards the line, forcing us up. Meanwhile a J/24, Spizzerinctum was above us and falling down (trying to clear the stand-off bouy behind the committee boat?). As a result, we started slow and between two boats, not clean air. Argo passed below Where Egos Dare and had clean air with better speed, passing us to leeward and pointing higher.

Mark "A" was located rather near R"4". On the starboard tack dominated beat out to Mark "A", we lost ground continuously. Argo tacked to port earlier, we continued out nearer the shoal marked by R"4" then tacked over to port. Argo crossed ahead of us by some eight boatlengths. After passing Mark "A" to Mark "E", we may have made up a bit, but were about two minutes behind at Mark "E".

Fell further behind on the way out to Mark "E".

Never checked the location of the genoa leech vis-a-vis the leeward spreader...relied on verbal reports from the genoa trimmer. Possibly overtrimmed the main? Had a bit of trouble getting into the flow of steering to the telltails of the genoa. In the video @ 5:20, its mentioned that the right side was the place to be. Repeated @ 6:25, but further out past Back Creek, its the left side that is favored (7:00).

Gybed at Mark "E" and set with a port pole. My error, starboard pole would have been marginally better. Had trouble with the pole having been spun once after the guy was placed in the jaw, topping lift and downhaul were attached resulting a delay setting the spinnaker.

Took a path through the mooring field rather than passing above all the boats as Argo did. Gained on that choice.

Mike stepped on, or caught his foot on, the small dorade vent above the head and forced the metal vent down through its fitting into the hollow of the dorade box. Did not investigate that night as Mike and I stayed in the cockpit having two beers and chips. Did not want to investigate the extent of the damage while he was aboard. Sure that he was feeling bad enough already.

Finishing order: 247, 262. Did not compete: 158, 272, 550.
