Course: B1 shortened to R"8".
Sails: i Elliott/Pattison Sailmakers
169LP genoa and Interrupt main. EP Sails spinnaker. Backstay at 3.
Arrived near the line to start with about three and half minutes to go...not good to early. Stalled the boat and still ended up closer to the line than desired. Trimmed for speed with 20 seconds to go. Started well off the boat wtih a number of boats between us and the committee boat. Very disappointing start.
After sailing about a quarter mile on the first leg, noticed that Argo was about a quarter mile ahead of both Skybird and Constance. Was the pin end that favored? Argo kept but did not expand that lead over Skybird for the rest of the race.
After rounding Mark "A" and Y"A" behind Skybird, Meredith became rather agitated that we should fly the spinnaker with the apparent wind at about 60*. Given our position and the poor odds of imroving in the weak conditions, decided to fly spinnaker and let the reality of the matter sink in, hopefully. Flew spinnaker and rapidly fell further behind. As we neared Mark "B", all agreed that we should switch back to the genoa. So we did so.
From Mark "B" back to Y"A" closed the distance on both Argo and Skybird, making up much of what we lost using the spinnaker. Boat moving well with telltales streaming along the luff of the genoa and off the back of the main. Balanced helm. Little heel. Apparent wind reported to be as high as 8.4 kts.
After rounding Y"A", flew the spinnaker with the apparent wind from abeam to nearly behind. Closed the distance on both Argo and Skybird, but not enough to matter.
Shortened course finished at R"8".
Finishing order: 247, 550, 262. Did not compete: 158, 272
