Matt Alisch's summary of the day:
Jonathan,
Wanted to send a quick note summarizing today. Firstly, thank you for the opportunity to sail today...despite the tough weather it was great to get out on the water in such a cool event.
Racing today was a mixed bag. I think our results were 5,5,DNS,4. Breeze was generally 10-15, current from the north, and shifty. We had a tough time figuring out the starting sequence, and didn't have any great starts. Our first upwind legs went pretty well, generally rounding in 3rd behind LG and Windswept. We often lost on runs.
Following the second race, we had trouble getting hte spinnaker down as it was interacting with the top of the genoa. We were too far from the starting line by the time we got it down, and sat race 3 out. Meredeth noted the kite has a repairable hole in it. We chose not to fly a spinnaker in the last race to prevent any more trouble with it. Wing on wing with the genoa downwind got us a 4th. LG was pretty untouchable.
We did have a run in with Argo....it was an obvious Port/Starboard after the start of the second race. Argo was trying to cross us on port, we maneuvered to avoid a collision and yelled protest, asking him to do turns. He then protested us, which he later told us was because we were "hunting" him. Obviously this wasn't the case, but after a soggy day nobody wanted to go to a protest. Just FYI though.
Anyways, hopefully you had a great day today, we certainly did. We didn't inspect the spinnaker afterwords as everything was wet and there wasn't a good place to lay it out. If it is damaged, let me know and we're happy to pay for repairs.
Best,
Matt
