Sails: Interrupt mainsail, 135 genoa.
Sailed out to watch the start of the 2024 Annapolis to Bermuda race. Only 18 boats total. Arrived late to the start. Pride of Baltimore started while I was approaching R"4". Start line was near R"2". Pride tried to start on starboard, but was unable to lay the line, tacked to port and back to starboard to start. While approaching R"4", received a confirmation call from CapitalOne regarding wire transfer of funds...during the start of course. Person on the other end must have wondered what was going on given that I asked them to hold and call out "gybe the boat!" to the phantom crew. When they asked for the accounted number, said I would have to go below to get the number and asked them to hold.
Sailed Constance towards "1AH", with 120+* apparent, in a vain attempt to close Pride. Never got close. Changed course at "1AH" to head for R"2" to watch the remaining classes start.
Upper Force 4 part of the time sailing back towards Annapolis close hauled. Feathering the boat up closer to wind, would have been pinching that the amount of wind made pinching worthwhile, higher angle, less heel, hopefully less leeway and still good boat speeds. Need to track this more carefully.
Saw a gust of 23+kts near Horn Point. Decided to roll up the 135LP and sail main only for a little bit to round Horn Point, head into the wind towards Annapolis Maryland Capital Yacht Club. Used the lee there to drop and flake the main.
