169LP genoa, Pandora main, and Interrupt spinnaker. Backstay at 3.
Low wind conditions. August has come to the Bay. Low expectations for the possibilities of this evening's race.
Decided to take this opportunity to teach Heather how to "do bow".
Hoisted spinnaker at the pin end just before the start. Directedly ahead of Rinn Duin by less than a boat length. Tight spinnaker carry, actually a bit upwind, yet faster than under genoa due to the very light wind...as much as three knots. Once we got the spinnaker up and flying well, it had caught one tape behind the starboard spreader, we pulled away from Rinn Duin, sailing under genoa and main, steadily. Next, we passed the Cal 25 , also flying spinnaker. We sailed a bit broader angle, though the apparent wind was ahead of the beam.
AYC abandoned this evening's race due to lack of wind at 1900.
As we approached Mark "A", found Argo sailing under genoa and main, to starboard and somewhat behind us. Guessing that Argo started at the boat end planning to sail upwind to Mark "A". Argo left the mark to port, as was proper. We did not bother with Mark "A", which was nearly a quarter mile out of position, gybed around, to show Heather how to gybe. Doused the spinnaker, fired up the engine, and headed back to dock.
