Close reach start near the committee boat with Rinn Duin above us. After crossing the line, sailed through the lee of Rinn Duin, in their windshadow.

Discussions regarding the meaning of the "R" in the course descriptor "A2R". All aboard concluded it meant leaving Mark "A" to starboard rather than to port...an error and a disadvantage. As we headed furhter down the river the course became a beat to windward. Being higher early on the leg would have been better.

Rounded the weather mark, Mark "D" to starboard in close company with three J/105's. All the other fleets sailed course B4, about 5.878 NM per YachtScoring or 5.6 per OpenCPN. Bit of a foul up hoisting the spinnaker, with the pole to port, we tried to hoist the spinnaker with the spinnaker halyard to port of the headstay. Dropped, moved the halyard forward around the headstay to starboard and re-hoisted without issue. First race. Work out the kinks. Knock off the rust from the winter.

By the time, Rinn Duin reached the weather mark, we were perhaps halfway to R"8". We finished and motored back through the mooring field to obtain a position to drop sails before Rinn Duin reached mark G"1SC".

Constance sailed the course in 1:23 which corrects to an elapsed time of 69.08 minutes. The PHRF rating for Alberg 30 Constance is 231. AYC converts this to 0.8323. Per the "seconds per mile" to "time over time" conversion formula: TCF = a / (b + PHRF_Rating) where "a" is assumed to be 650 -> b = (a - TCF * PHRF_Rating) / TCF, therefore b = 549.9684.

Finished just behind Valhalla's Shamrock, which finished 5-1/2 minutes ahead of the next J/30, having taken 1:27 to complete their course. The J/30's started five minutes before us and sailed course B4, which includes a leg up the bay (downwind) to Mark "B" and an upwind leg from Mark "B" to Mark "D". J-30 Vahalla , a J/30, just like Valhalla's Shamrock, rates 144; the time factor is 0.8884, using the C = 1146.46 and the conversion formula C / (C + rating).

Results: Constance only boat scored. All others listed DNC. Rinn Duin may have been TLE.
