Course:A1.
Sails: Elliott/Pattison Sailmakers 169LP genoa and Pandora main. Backstay at 3.

Started about midline with the Tartan 245 near the pin. Pin rather favored, even with the windward mark near the southwest limit of its line of possible positions.

Started with a single reef in the main. On the boards to the windward mark, started with the genoa cars positioned with six holes in the genoa tracking visible aft of the car...too far aft, moved the cars forward one position after each tack. Should have placed them with eight holes showing aft the car. The initial position had the foot tight and the top of the genoa twisted off, spilling air, too much so. First board: 0.3nm @ 4.8kts; second 0.4nm @ 5.2kts; third 0.37nm @ 4.5kts. Over the tacks to windward, we maintained position, even closing upon the Tartan a few lengths, before reaching Mark A.

Rounded the mark and decided to sail wing on wing with a full main on port tack heading directly for the turning mark, R"8". Significant wave height of 1.5ft running at an angle to the wind, trying to kick the stern. Rick had to work hard to keep the boat on track, as the waves tried to force us into sailing by the lee. Tartan tacked downwind, crossing our bow several times, playing the angles with its asymmetric spinnaker...no broaches tonight...the young crew aboard. Rounded the turning mark somewhat behind the Tartan.

Arrived at G"1SC" a couple boatlengths behind the Tartan and in company of a number of J/105's. Just after the turn at G"1SC", we decided to sail through the mooring field, due to the crowd of boats, lack of clear wind, lightness of the wind (down to four knots it seemed), and inability to point high enough to clear the moored boats in these conditions.

After tacking once we cleared the moored boats, we encounted a power boat, largish, flared bows, three large engines, in our way while we were on starboard tack trying to cross Spa Creek. Reluctantly, slowly, the power boat moved, barely faster than we did, to clear our lane once we had pinched up to avoid him. Continued on starboard tack, above Smoke 'n Oakum, across Spa Creek and tacked back to port when they felt it was time to go.

Finished among a number of other boats, having received a lift a couple boatlengths before the finish.

Our corrected time placed us 108 seconds ahead of the Tartan. Our third win in heavier air. Results being 7 seconds ahead, 8 seconds behind and 59 seconds behind on the clock.

GPX formatted formatted track. Estimated distance: 4.08nm, estimated average speed: 4.65kts, duration: 0:52
