Course:A2
Sails: Elliott/Pattison Sailmakers 169LP genoa and spinnaker, and Pandora main. Backstay at 3. Should have used the smaller sail.

Close reach start halfway down the line with Rinn Duin above us. Rinn Duin had a much better start close to the committee boat. My fault. Tacked too early onto starboard to set up for the start. Ran down the line for 80+ seconds.

After crossing the line, gained enough on Rinn Duin to tack and cross her before the return of the boats that started earlier. Quite pleased to so and thereby avoid interactions with the boats returning under spinnaker.

Quite a lot of wind. Boat heeled way over with Rick trimming genoa, myself steering and the other five folks on the rail. Developed waves. Took a good bit of spray and the top of a wave over the bow once. Main by and large unused, not luffing but not pulling either. Meaningful lee helm at times. Needed more main trim to counteract the helm, but less sail to ease the angle of heel.

The last of the J/30's, the class that started before us, rounded A2 at 1853. We rounded at 1858 per the GPX track. Rounded far ahead of Rinn Duin. Decided to tack, rather than gybe, given the strong winds and number of inexperienced folk aboard. Had to work to make the mark as the wind quickly headed back up the river.

Main and genoa only on the way back to R"8". No need to fly a spinnaker in these conditions given the magnitude of our lead and the lack of experience. The J/30's ran away from us on the downwind leg.

Had to tack unexpectedly in Spa Creek when crossing the creek on starboard tack. The T2P.tv boat was towing Rocket J Squirrel directly into our line.

Results: Constance, Rinn Duin. Our correct time would have placed us in third among the J/30's, beating four J/80's, and one minute behind the last J/88. All without flying a spinnaker on the fifteen minute downwind leg.

When setting up for the alley to the slip, lost engine power. Symptoms of a fuel starvation problem. See maintenance entry for for 2026-06-22.
